Creston, B.C. — February 4, 2026
The Creston Valley Housing Corporation (CVHC) is pleased to announce a major milestone in its first community housing project, with Cover Architecture Collaborative of Nelson, B.C.officially engaged to develop the architectural plans for the mixed-use housing and childcare facility planned for 1501 Cedar Street.
Established in late 2024, the CVHC was created to help facilitate a supply of sustainable rental housing that serves a broad range of residents. Since its formation, the Corporation has focused on governance, project development, and securing partnerships to move its inaugural project forward.
The proposed development will combine a 110-space licensed childcare facility with 50 rental housing units, addressing two of Creston’s most pressing community needs in a single, integrated solution.
“This project represents real momentum,” said Councillor Denise Dumas, Chair of the CVHC. “Hiring Cover Architecture is an important step toward turning this vision into a reality. The Creston Valley Housing Corporation is focused on creating housing that supports working individuals and families and strengthens our community for the long term.”
Project Details & Timeline
Cover Architecture is currently working with the CVHC to design a modern, functional building that supports both family-oriented childcare services and community-focused housing. The CVHC hopes to have shovels in the ground by summer 2026, with construction expected to be completed by fall 2027.
The ground floor of the building will include:
- A 110-space childcare centre with infant/toddler and school-age spaces
- Operated by a dedicated non-profit childcare provider
- Inclusive, accessible design to meet the needs of Creston families
Above the childcare facility, the building will feature:
- 50 rental apartments, including studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units
- Homes designed to be accessible for a wide range of residents
- A focus on long-term sustainability and community connection
Important Clarifications for the Public
The CVHC would like to clarify several important points early in the process:
- This development is not a seniors’ residence.
- It is not a low-income or subsidized housing project.
- There is no rental waitlist at this time. The CVHC and the Town of Creston are not accepting names or applications for future apartments.
Information about unit availability and application processes will be shared publicly at a later stage once timelines are confirmed.
“We know there is strong interest in housing in Creston,” said Councillor Dumas. “That’s exactly why it’s important to be clear and transparent about what this project is — and what it isn’t — as we move forward.”
New Website Launched
To improve transparency and public access to information, the CVHC has also launched its official website at cvhc.creston.ca. The site will provide project updates as they become available, background on the organization, and information about future initiatives as they develop.
Looking Ahead
This first project marks a significant step forward for the Creston Valley Housing Corporation and reflects a long-term commitment to thoughtful, housing development in the community. As planning continues, the CVHC will provide updates through its website and public announcements.
